Bush highlights faith-based efforts in AIDS relief
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President George W. Bush says his multi-billion-dollar initiative to fight AIDS in Africa supports “especially faith-based” groups because of their “effectiveness on the ground.”
The president spoke with Rev. Rick Warren in Washington on Monday at Saddleback Church’s Civil Forum on Global Health.
Warren credited the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief with saving millions of lives.
Bush said the program’s faith-based partnerships work because they’re based on sharing God’s love.
President-elect Barack Obama praised Bush’s AIDS initiative in a videotaped statement and pledged to continue it after he takes office.
