Congressmen pray for President-Elect Obama
CAPITOL HILL (AP) _ Moments before he takes the oath of office next week, President-elect Barack Obama will pass through a doorway at the U.S. Capitol that’s been anointed by a congressman and two ministers.
Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, the Rev. Rob Schenck (shank) of the National Clergy Council and the Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition conducted and filmed the unauthorized religious service last week.
In a video the ministers posted on their Web site, Schenck anoints the doorway with olive oil and Mahoney says, “We consecrate Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States.”
Congressman Broun adds that America’s leaders “need to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.”
