Pope Benedict in the West Bank
BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AP) _ Pope Benedict is in the West Bank city of Bethlehem today.
After celebrating Mass this morning in Manger Square, the pontiff will pay a private visit to the Grotto of the Nativity, the traditional birthplace of Jesus. He’s also scheduled to speak at a Palestinian refugee camp in Bethlehem, and to meet with the president of the Palestinian Authority. At a Mass yesterday in Jerusalem’s Garden of Gethsemane
(geth-SEM’-ah-nee), Benedict called on Palestinians and Israelis to live alongside one another in peace. He said, “In the Holy Land, there is room for everyone.” Tomorrow, the pope plans to visit Jesus’ boyhood town of Nazareth.
