Protestant church burned in Algeria
ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) _ A Christian leader in Algeria blames “Islamist intolerance” for the looting and burning of a church east of Algiers over the weekend.
Mustapha Krim, who heads the Algerian Protestant Church association, says the looters also set fire to a pile of Bibles and religious textbooks, and desecrated Christian crosses.
Krim said the looting showed that some Muslims believe “there is no room for Christian religious practices in Algeria,” and alleged that it was “fueled by what just happened in Egypt,” where six Christians were killed in a church shooting during Coptic Christmas celebrations last week.
In mainly Muslim Malaysia, nine churches also have been attacked in recent days.
