Finding Faith at the Oscars

notupHollywood gave out its highest honors last weekend, and stories about faith and sacrificial love werere among nominees for movie of the year. We’ve got a quick look at some great films that were recognized yesterday.One of the best-rated films of the year, Pixar’s Up is up for Movie of the Year. Mark Earley have a great review of the movie in a Breakpoint Commentary. Up is also nominated for Animated film of the year.

Christianity Today had an interview with Up’s director Pete Doctor where he discusses his Christian faith and how being a father has taught him to enjoy creation even more. Twin Cities TV station KARE11 recently had an interview with this Minnesota native.

Another movie that did far better than expected was The Blind Side, a true story about a Christian family who take in a young man living in foster homes. His gift is athletics, specifically football, and the family is determined to help him keep his grades up as he eventually becomes an NFL player. Focus on the Family’s PluggedIn gives it a good review, and helps you decide who in the family is best to take to this PG-13 movie. It’s also up for Movie of the Year.

In a lesser-watched category is a short film with a serious subject matter. Christianity Today’s Entertainment blog tells us about the film Kavi. It’s a movie by a Christian director named Gregg Helvey about a child slave in India. They have a lot more about this film that is up for the Best Live Action Short Film.
