Dr. Carlson - I have an opposite situation that you are speaking about, i have had to recently move in with my parents while going through a divorce from a drug addict. My parents have been nice enough to allow my self and my 2 yr old daughter to live with them. However my mother wants to be very controlling over my life since we live there, she wants to raise my child, she wants to know my every move financially and physically. I pay half of the rent, groceries twice a month, I pay for all the needs of my child, I pay them for a car they help me purchase, and I pay for all my own bills, plus I pay for my legal fees. All they are helping with is a roof over our head which I am grateful for, but I feel that they are weighing me down, and that I am not helping myself but only helping them. My mother is has a gambling addiction and has on numerous times put themselves into deep financial debt, which my father has had to break his back trying to get them out of debt, and I have also been helping. Not sure what to do, but with all the other stress in my life that I feel that I don't need her olding financial obligations to her over my head. I am a 36 year old divorce', working two jobs trying to get on my feet....when do you stop caring about your parents and when do you stop helping them>
I know that the lord says to honor the parents - please define honor (does this mean to feel guilty for them when they can't make it on their own?) Please help and pray for guidence for me, and for the lord to show me the path that I need to be following.
Thank you,
Shelly Mullins (308) 220-0028 // P.O. Box 104, Scottsbluff, NE 69363-1041

Hi Stephanie~
Thanks for today's program with Pastor Ed Underwood (When God breaks your heart)- I wish more time could be spent on the individual issues you're trying to deal with- It happens so much on Along the way- there isn't time for call in's (or maybe it's not meant to be?) It must be challenging- I think there's room/need for the Christian community to engage in these issues-
Welcome to 900 AM- I look forward to seeing the line-up and direction of Along the Way in the future
Blessings to you
