Early Saturday morning, the country of Chile was hit with an 8.8 magnitude earthquake — one of the strongest on record. The death toll is nearing 1000, and over 500,000 homes were damaged. Don Rupp has an update from World Vision, and Samaritan’s Purse talks about their efforts to get relief to those in need.

Samartian’s Purse was able to send relief in the form of blankets and food:

A disaster response team from our country office in neighboring Bolivia brought in truckloads of food and blankets. We are working with evangelical church partners in the affected areas to assess the needs and determine the locations where we can help.

And World Vision is planning their first flight into the country:

Our first relief flight will carry relief supplies like tarps, blankets, plastic sheeting, and collapsible water containers for survivors. Airport closures in Chile are forcing delays in the plane’s departure.
